Battle Creek firefighters responded to a house fire in the 100 block of Fairview Avenue, around 8:00 AM, Friday morning.

When they arrived at the scene, they found the rear of the home engulfed in smoke with flames. The occupants were safely outside, but the family pets were not. As they battled the flames, they located all of the family pets.

The fire was quickly extinguished and contained to the source. A firefighter received a minor leg injury and most of the family pets survived, two dogs and a turtle, unfortunately the cat perished.

Early investigation seems to show the cause was electrical due to the clothes dryer. Total damage is estimated at $15,000. The fire remains under investigation.
