In an effort to help reduce childhood obesity in the Battle Creek area, FireKeeper’s Casino Hotel is now announcing an initiative to get kids to snack healthy.

FireKeeper’s says they have partnered with the Battle Creek Community Foundation’s Operation Fit to get food carts filled with healthy snacks like fresh fruits and vegetables into schools throughout Battle Creek. The Good Eats Food Carts will be stocked weekly, and the food left at the end of the day will be available for families to take home.

Community Initiatives Officer at the BCCF Angela Stewart says that they are "very excited about how this project will impact the community."

Operation Fit is a program started by the BCCF along with Bronson Battle Creek, the Regional Health Alliance and many other community organizations, in order to improve nutrition for school kids. The Operation Fit program is also designed to increase physical activity among the children of Calhoun County, and to create "supportive environments" that help children develop healthy habits at a young age.

It's not clear which Battle Creek schools are getting the food carts.
