Five win a Million in Michigan!

There are five new millionaires thanks to the Michigan Lottery’s Powerball game.

Five lucky players matched the first five numbers – 04-08-19-27-34 – in Wednesday night’s drawing to win a $1 million prize. The winning tickets were bought at:

• D&W, located at 6425 28th Street Southeast in Grand Rapids
• Horton Depot, located at 389 South Moscow Road in Horton
• Freedom Valu Center, located at 405 North Stephenson Avenue in Iron Mountain
• Admiral gas station, located at 805 South Mitchell Street in Cadillac
• Beacon & Bridge Market, located at 820 North Saginaw Street in Holly

Wednesday night’s $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot had Lottery players swarming retailers for a chance at the world-record prize. None of the 18.8 million tickets purchased in Michigan matched the jackpot-winning numbers.

The previous record for a U.S. lottery jackpot was $656 million. That Mega Millions jackpot was won on March 30, 2012, and split between three winning tickets (Kansas, Illinois, and Maryland).

The former record Powerball jackpot was $590.5 million, won on May 18, 2013, by Gloria C. Mackenzie, of Zephyrhills, Fla. Powerball ticket sales began April 19, 1992. Michigan began selling Powerball tickets on Jan. 31, 2010.

The largest Lottery prize for a Michigan player was a $337 million Powerball jackpot. Donald Lawson, of Lapeer, won that jackpot on Aug. 15, 2012.

The winners should contact the Michigan Lottery Public Relations Division at (517) 373-1237 to schedule an appointment to collect their big prize. The prizes must be claimed at the Lottery’s headquarters in Lansing. Powerball tickets are valid for one year from the drawing date.

Powerball plays may be purchased for $2 each at Lottery retailers across the state. A “Power Play” option that multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to five times may be added to any Powerball play for only $1.
