As we draw closer to Winter it's important that we all stay as safe on the road as possible. Now is the time to invest in some new winter tires for our cars. They aren't as expensive as they may seem, and the importance of having them is crucial to anyone who may think their "all season" tires will do just fine. Woody Rogers, director of tire information for online retailer the Tire Rack, spoke to Freep on why changing them is so important:

Today’s tire compounds improve traction at the molecular level for snow and cold pavement. Using summer or all-season tires on a cold day is like putting a Snickers bar in the freezer: You can shatter it with a hammer. The rubber of a summer tire can actually crack in 15-degree weather.

I'm planning on switching mine out at the end of the month. This is one minor thing you can do to ensure your safety and your car's well being this snow season.
