Grand Rapids officials say a $50 license fee for backyard chickens will cover paperwork and any potential enforcement issues.
Officials earlier this year passed an ordinance that would allow people to keep chickens on their property. A one-year permit for the measure that goes into force by April 1 will cost $50 with a $10 renewal fee.
Costs would cover city administrative fees and any enforcement measures related to lot sizes and numbers of chickens.
Opponents of the measure proposed a $25 license fee instead.
