It’s been 55 years since the first Greater Galesburg Day took place in downtown Galesburg and the day of family fun is taking place this weekend.

The festivities kick-off Saturday, with the traditional parade at 11 AM., giving the kids a chance to scurry for the candy being tossed from the various floats, fire engines and you name it.

Following the parade is the age-old fire truck rides and ice cream social that is hosted by the Galesburg-Charleston Fire Department, giving your kids a rare chance to actually ride upon a real-live fire engine! You can also purchase a ride in the Banana Car, which looks like a large banana. For the more laid-back adventure, horse drawn wagon rides are also offered.

A fantastic car show is being hosted by Go Go Classic Cars, which is situated in the heart of downtown Galesburg. Go Go has transformed the former Ford auto dealership into a one-of-a-kind experience of viewing classic cars. The historic dealership building now sports vintage neon car dealership signs, taking you back into the early 1940’s. The car show is free, as well as the tour of the spacious showroom within the former dealership.

Just down the street from Go Go Classic Cars is the motorcycle show being hosted by Checkered Past Cycles, next door to the Galesburg Post Office.

For the bookworms, a book sale is taking place at the Galesburg-Charleston Memorial District Library, just down the street from the motorcycle show.

Besides all of the food vendors and craft booths, a city wide garage sale is also taking place.

It’s a beautiful weekend for Greater Galesburg Day, with a variety of fun for everyone!
