The Battle Creek Police Department is reporting that a gunshot fired on the north side of the city Friday afternoon struck and entered a school building in the area. At around 1:00pm, Calhoun County Central Dispatch received a calls about shots fired in the Washington Heights area. Later, the Battle Creek Academy confirmed that a round had entered their building.

Officers responded quickly to the area. Upon arrival, no victim or witnesses were located. The area south of the school was checked and one spent round was found on the street. One round did enter the school building as well. No injuries have been reported at this time as a result of the gunfire and there is no information about any suspects. Immediate area schools were on a temporary lock-down until it was verified there was no longer a threat in the area.

There is limited information at this time. Any witnesses are asked to call Silent Observer or Calhoun County Central Dispatch with any information to provide about the incident.
