A Hastings man was found dead Monday afternoon after an ultralight aircraft he was flying crashed in southwest Michigan.  State Police say the body of 45-year-old Craig Ewing and debris from the plane were discovered by a State Police helicopter in a cornfield in Allegan County’s Casco Township.  Ewing was flying the new plane home from Lansing, Illinois.
Police said it’s unclear exactly when the crash occurred because an ultralight aircraft does not need to use an airport runway to take off - and no flight plans were filed. None of the airports in the area had reported a missing aircraft.
