Kalamazoo Public Safety and Portage Public Safety sent a total of 20 officers to respond to a large fight that broke out, Thursday morning, at Loy Norrix High School.

At around 11:38 AM police received a call, from an officer assigned to the school, that multiple fights had broken out in the school cafeteria. When officers arrived, fights had spread to other locations in the school. Fighting students failed to respond to police orders to stop, resulting in the deployment of pepper spray.

A student claimed that a gun was seen, but an investigation did not turn-up any weapon.

One student was arrested for fighting and Life EMS treated subjects exposed to pepper spray. Officers remained on Campus until the end of the school day.

Kalamazoo Public Safety and Kalamazoo Public Schools are continuing the investigation to identify students that were involved and determine the appropriate charges.
