We officially kick off the 2016 edition of the Michigan High School Athletic Association Football playoffs tonight.

Only six area squads made it to the second season, with three in the city. For the first time since 2011, neither of the two area 8-Man squads made it to the postseason.

All three city teams hit the road this week, including our Game of the Night, as the Lakeview Spartans travel to Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central to take on the Rangers. The Spartans are in the postseason for the fifth straight season, the second longest postseason run in the area.

Harper Creek returns to the playoffs after a one-season hiatus and make their way to Coldwater for the second time this season.

Pennfield is back after missing the postseason the last two years, as they make way to Lake Odessa tonight.

Olivet has a rematch with Berrien Springs this week. The two teams played in a Division 5 District Semifinal last season.

Homer hosts Dansville in a rematch of last year's District Final. It's the fourth straight postseason for Homer.

Climax-Scotts continues their postseason legacy as they host Colon. The second-ranked Panthers are in the playoffs for an area-best 14th straight season.
