While students are out on holiday break, a few of the area's basketball squads return to action this week, including one city squad.

The Marshall Redhawks are back in action tonight, as they make their way to Otsego to take on the Bulldogs. The defending Class B champion girls squad (4-1) have run off four straight wins after opening the season with a six-point loss to Williamston. They will see a 5-0 Bulldog girls squad this evening.

The boys are 3-2 and look to return to the win column after a 56-48 loss to Gull Lake on December 22nd. Otsego's boys are 2-1 after a 60-50 loss to Battle Creek Central in the Chuck Turner Classic December 21st.

On Friday, the St. Philip Tigers will play the Union City Chargers for the third straight year during the holiday break. After a slow start, the Lady Tigers are 3-2 on the year following a 54-14 victory over Colon on December 16th. Union City's girls have lost four straight following a 63-14 defeat to Springport December 22nd.

The Tiger boys are also 3-2 on the year after a 77-64 victory over Litchfield in a early season make-up game December 20th. The Chargers sit a 2-2 on the year following a 54-47 victory over Bronson December 20th. Union City has won both meetings with St. Philip the last two seasons.

Finally, the Climax-Scotts Panthers will be back in action for the first time in two weeks Friday as they host Quincy. The girls are 3-2 on the year after a 57-41 loss to Bellevue on December 16th. They will see a Lady Orioles squad searching for their first win on the season at 0-3.

For the Panther boys, they are 1-2 on the year following a 79-66 loss to Bellevue. They will see an Orioles squad at 2-1 after a 54-35 victory over Athens on December 15th.
