The game began as an even match with the Lions leading 13-12 at the end of the first period.  However, the next eight minutes belonged to the Hornets, who put up 10 unanswered points before the Lions scored a basket in the second period. At the half, Maple Valley had closed the gap with the scoreboard showing Hillsdale leading 24-21. However, by the end of the third, the Hornets’ lead had increased to a dozen, 48-36.  Though they never gave up, Maple Valley watched as that 12-point lead by Hillsdale continued to increase all the way to the final buzzer.

The top scorers for Vermontville were Luis Martinez with 21-points and Austin Gonser with 10-points.
