Dreyson English scored 10 of his 18 points in the first half, but turnovers killed the St. Philip Tigers in their season opener as they fell 58-53 to the Mendon Hornets. The Tigers (0-1) turned the ball over 16 times in the season half after holding a 24-17 lead at halftime. St. Philip was able to use the long ball to get themselves back into the game late, with seniors English and Hunter Haley each hitting two threes. Haley would provide 14 points on the night and sophomore Drew Lantinga added 13.

Senior Parker Cupp led Mendon with 15 points, with Trey Cook tallying 13 to push the Hornets (1-0).
