Beavers Too Much For Panthers: HS Basketball

The first time the Harper Creek Beavers and Pennfield Panthers played this season, it became more of a defensive battle in the second half. This game was no where close.

The Beavers started with a 7-0 run and never looked back, as they ran away with an 83-56 victory Friday to set up a first-place battle in the Interstate 8 with Jackson Lumen Christi on Tuesday. Senior TraVon Johnson scored a game-high 29 points with seven assists on the night to lead the Beavers (14-1, 9-1 I-8). Khylen Watkins added 21 and Brandon Hutson scored 14, including a breakaway dunk in the first quarter.

One of the Panthers big men had a solid effort, as junior Steffen Kinne tallied 22 points in the loss. Sophomore Ron Jamierson added 11 for the Panthers (9-6, 4-6 I-8). Pennfield's leading scorer on the season, senior Ryan Lowe, was held to two points on the night.

Here's a look at the rest of the scores, including victories for Battle Creek Central and St. Philip, and the struggles continue for Lakeview.
