Pennfield Powers Past Jax Northwest: HS Basketball-Janaury 21

The Pennfield Panthers have always been known for their football, but it helped Tuesday night in the closing moments with the Jackson Northwest Mounties. With the two teams tied at 42 with 8.5 seconds left, the Panthers had three quarters of the floor to give themselves a chance to win. A phenomenal touchdown pass from senior Brandun Rugg to sophomore Deviare Todd that was right under the Mounties basket and put in with two seconds left game the Panthers a 44-42 lead. A late free throw by freshman Grant Petersen gave the Panthers a 45-42 victory, moving them to 6-2 on the season.

Senior center Ryan Lowe scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds to go with eight blocks for the Panthers. Todd, playing in his first game of the season after transferring from Battle Creek Central, added seven points including the game winner.

Blake Ryan, one of Northwest's (2-4) senior forwards, scored 14 points in the loss including all eight of the Mounties points in the third quarter.
