Bearcats Hold Off The Spartans: HS Basketball

It was a packed Battle Creek Central Fieldhouse on Friday and the fans in attendance sure received a treat of a ball game. In a game that saw just five lead changes and four ties, the Battle Creek Central Bearcats were able to pull out a 66-61 victory over the Lakeview Spartans at Chuck Turner Court. No matter what the teams' records were, there was no doubt that both teams provided exciting basketball.

The Bearcats (7-6) have now won five straight and seven of their last eight. The bench stepped up for Central, as sophomore Demetrius Craig led the way with 20 points, including four scores from long range. Wendell White added 11 in limited time, due to early foul trouble. Austin Johnson scored nine and DaMonte Thomas chipped in seven off the bench.

Senior TJ Fisk scored a game-high 24 points for the Spartans (1-9) while grabbing six boards on the night. Hunter Bost put in 12, with eight coming in the fourth quarter. Guard Gavin Homer, who had only scored 18 points on the season in nine games, scored a season-high nine points in the loss.

Here are the rest of the scores, as Harper Creek and Pennfield both earn Interstate 8 victories, and St. Philip falls on the road in a battle of South Central Athletic Association leaders.
