Beavers Host The Mustangs: HS Basketball

Four of the five city teams return to action for the first time in 2015 tonight, including the undefeated Harper Creek Beavers. They will look to stay unblemished as they battle the Portage Central Mustangs in non-conference action. The former Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference foes will see each other for the first time since 2000 in non-conference play.

While the Beavers - ranked eighth in Class B - look to win their fifth straight win tonight, they also look to end a three-game losing skid to Portage Central. The Mustangs used a 20-6 run in the third quarter to pull away from the Beavers in a 66-46 victory at home last year. The Mustangs earned their first victory of the season just before the holiday, topping Gull Lake at home.

The three other schools are also playing non-conference foes tonight on the road, with Battle Creek Central at Holt, Lakeview at Plainwell and Pennfield traveling to Comstock.
