Beavers Rope The Mustangs: HS Basketball – January 7

While Harper Creek played a starter down due to illness, two of the other four starters powered the Beavers in a 84-52 thrashing of the Portage Central Mustangs Tuesday night. Senior Khylen Watkins scored a game-high 24 points, half of them coming from four three-balls, while senior TraVon Johnson added 23 points to keep the eighth-ranked in Class B Beavers undefeated at 5-0. Watkins and Johnson combined to shoot 71 percent from the field, while Harper Creek hit six from long range, their best showing of the season.

The Beavers were also without James Cadena, their second leading scorer, due to illness. His replacement, senior Coleton Swims, didn't score but had six assists on the night, all in the first quarter.

Sophomore Raine Potts scored 15 points for the Mustangs (1-4) off the bench to lead the way in the loss.
