HS Basketball: Slow Start Does In Spartans

The odds were already against the Lakeview Spartans as they traveled to Sturgis Tuesday night.

Not only is it a place that has been tough to play, they had to manage getting around a much taller squad that included a 6'10" center in Trojans senior Ryan Schuller.

After starting out down 15-6 after the 1st quarter, sparked by a 10-0 Sturgis run, the Spartans climbed all they way back up the mountain. They just couldn't stake claim to a victory, falling 49-44 on the road in non-conference play.

Junior guard CJ Foster scored half of his team-high 12 points in the fourth quarter in the loss for the Spartans (1-6). Senior guard Gavin Homer added 10 points and Nick Adams put in eight in his first start of the season.

Sturgis (4-3) received a double-double from Schuller on the night with a game-high 19 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Tristan Stewart scored 12 in the win.
