HS Basketball: Redhawks Advance With OT Win

Our High School Basketball Game of the Night was one of the best shows on the hardwood this season, and what a way to start the Michigan High School Athletic Association's Boys Basketball Districts.

The Pennfield Panthers pushed the Marshall Redhawks to the limit in their third meeting of the season, leading 24-19 after the first quarter. Marshall would retake the lead and hold on to it for the next two quarters. But with just seconds left and a three-point advantage, Panther junior Deveiare Todd drilled a three pointer from the right corner, his fifth triple of the night, as time expired to send the game to overtime tied at 76-76.

Redhawk seniors Jacob Brubaker and Drew DeVine would provide the offensive punch, holding Pennfield to five points in the extra period, to put Marshall in the Class B District Semifinals at Comstock with a 89-81 overtime win.

DeVine would lead all scorers with 33 points, with 23 of them coming in the second half for Marshall. Brubaker would add 30, scoring eight in the extra period. Senior TJ Rocco would chip in nine on the night. They advance to take on the Parchment Panthers at Comstock Wednesday at 6pm.

Todd would lead the Panthers with 27 points, including 11 in the second quarter. Senior Steffen Kinne had 26 points in his final game at Pennfield, who finished the season at 12-9. Junior Ron Jamierson put in 14 in the losing effort.
