HS Football: Heading West

We conclude the second-third of the High School Football season with a pleasant trip to Richland for this week's Game of the Night. The Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference will also see their third divisional games this week, as the Battle Creek Central Bearcats travel to Gull Lake to battle the Blue Devils.

After a tough loss to the St. Joseph Bears 27-21 last week, the Bearcats look to return to the win column and even their record at 3-3 with a win tonight. They also look to extend their lead in the SMAC East, as four teams trail the 2-0 Bearcats by a game at 1-1.

One of those teams is the Blue Devils, who are also at 2-3 overall following a crushing 63-13 defeat to the Portage Central Mustangs last week in non-divisional play. Gull Lake was one of the teams predicted to be in the mix among the top teams in the SMAC East, and this week could be pivotal to prove that point.

Last year at C.W. Post Field, the Bearcats were able to stave off a late comeback by the Blue Devils in a 21-20 victory, thanks to a stop of a two-point conversion with just seven seconds left on the clock. It was also Battle Creek Central's first win against Gull Lake in three career meetings between the schools.
