HS Football: Bearcats Host Wildcats In Pivotal Game

C.W. Post Field will be the host of two Homecoming ceremonies this weekend. It begins tonight for the hosting Battle Creek Central Bearcats when they battle the Mattawan Wildcats.

Both teams enter the contest at 3-3 overall, but the Bearcats hold the Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference's East Division lead at 3-0. The Wildcats trail by just a game at 2-1 in the division, tied with the Lakeview Spartans for second place.

Last season, the Bearcats had a tough loss on the road against the Wildcats, falling 13-6 and knocking them out of the SMAC East divisional race. It also ended a three-game winning streak the Bearcats had over Mattawan - their first loss to the Wildcats since 2003.

A win tonight for the Bearcats will give them a share of the SMAC East title with one divisional game left on their schedule. They also have to win their final three games to assure them a playoff spot in the Michigan High School Athletic Association postseason.
