When you think of the MHSAA Football Regional Finals in year's past you expect chilly temperatures, the start of harder turf and solid performances on the field. It has become slightly different this year with snow gracing us a few weeks sooner that usual.

The lone team in the area that remains is the Lakeview Spartans, who head into their first Regional since 1982, as they head up to the Muskegon area to battle the Mona Shores Sailors tonight. The Spartans with their three-headed hydra backfield of quarterback Skylar Nichols, and running backs Dre Kemp and Malik Shrad, look to pound the ground with their strong rushing game. They have used all season with a 10-1 record and knocking off the Portage Northern Huskies in the District Finals last week.

With a record of 10-1, the Mona Shores Sailors are in only their second postseason in school history and look to continue their farthest trek in November. They're led by four-year starting quarterback Tyree Jackson, who has been credited with 36 touchdowns for the Sailors, 22 of them through the air in part of just over 2,000 yards passing this season. The University of Buffalo verbal commit has also ran for just over 800 yards this season.

The Spartans defense will definitely be challenged, as they look to continue a trend of giving up seven points or less in four straight games, including three shutouts.

If you plan on traveling to the game in Norton Shores, here's your location. If you can't make it, be sure to catch the call of the game tonight at 6:35pm!
