This is the week that every Michigan high school football team aims for, becoming one of the 256 11-man and 16 8-man squads to make it to the postseason. No matter what you call it - pre-districts or district semifinals - six of the seven area schools made it automatically by winning six of their nine games this season (five wins for an eight-game schedule). One of them made it by playoff points and was the last school in their class to make it once the 5-4 teams were dispersed. Finally, there's one 8-man team that is looking to go deeper into their playoff run than last year.

Our Game of the Night on WBCK will take us to Lakeview, where the hosting Spartans will battle the Mattawan Wildcats in Division 2. The Spartans lone loss on the season came against Portage Northern, who is on the other side of the district bracket. They play Portage Central, who Lakeview was supposed to play but had their game cancelled in Week 2.

Since that loss, the Spartans have run off seven straight wins, on their way to their second straight Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference East Division title. It included a 38-12 victory over Mattawan in Week 4.

For Mattawan, that was their final loss of the season thus far. After starting 1-3 on the year, the Wildcats were victorious in their next five games and make it to the postseason for the third time in the last four years.

This should be a phenomenal battle of two ground attacks. The defenses will see the Spartans' Veer offense and the Wildcats' Wing-T. The four-game series between the two schools is tied 2-2, but Mattawan holds a 1-0 record in playoff games over Lakeview following a 66-28 trouncing in the 2012 district semifinal round.

In other action, Harper Creek eked in to the playoffs at 5-4 and will travel to Plainwell to battle the Trojans in a rematch of 2012's district finals (Harper was victorious). The St. Philip Tigers are at home on Friday night hosting the Waldron Spartans, who they have defeated six straight times. Here's the schedule!
