The Drive Continues – HS Football Playoffs-Week 2

We enter the second week of the MHSAA Football playoffs, and the theme this week seems to be "Revenge".Two of the three City squads will be playing against the team that they suffered their only loss to during the 2014 regular season.

Our Game of the Week takes us back to Lakeview, where the Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference East Division champion Spartans will host the Portage Northern Huskies. It's a rematch of Week 1, where the Huskies scored 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to earn a 28-24 victory at McCamley Field in Portage. This game will feature two solid defenses that know how to force turnovers. Lakeview struggled to hold onto the ball in their district semifinal with the Mattawan Wildcats, giving the ball up three times while fumbling it on three other occasions.

The Spartans will also be looking at a Huskies' offense that like to throw the pigskin, which was a theme in their first meeting. Northern was able to toss for 224 yards and three scores, so the Spartans' secondary will be challenged again this week.

Lakeview will look to make it to their second Regional final in school history. They were selected to the postseason in 1983 and made it all the way to the Pontiac Silverdome, falling to East Grand Rapids in the Class B final.

Here's the rest of the Week 2 schedule, where Harper Creek heads to Eaton Rapids for their Division 4 district final, and the St. Philip Tigers host Lawrence in a Week 9 rematch against the Tigers. It was St. Phil's lone loss on the 8-Man regular season.
