The Lakeview Spartans and Mattawan Wildcats faced each other for the second time this season, with both teams holding long winning streaks heading into Friday's MHSAA District Semifinals in Division 2. Both teams had chances at field goals on this blustery night into the the north-blowing win, but failed on both counts.

After going scoreless in the first half, Spartans running back Dre'On Kemp would spark the offense with an 80-yard touchdown run to put them ahead 7-0 after a Jake Herbers extra point. The Wildcats would answer later in the third quarter with a seven-yard run from junior quarterback Parker Curtis to even up the score.

The Spartans would have the final say capitalizing on a botched Mattawan punt, leaving them with 31 yards to go. Lakeview would score on a two-yard run by Skylar Nichols with just over five minutes left to earn the victory.

Kemp would rush for 204 yards on the night on 25 carries and a score, as the Spartans would rush for 312 yards on the night. Mattawan won the turnover battle, forcing three on the night.

Lakeview stays at home for the District Finals next week, as they host the Portage Northen Huskies. The Huskies were 35-14 winners over Portage Central to move to 7-3 and advance. The Spartans will look to avenge their lone loss of the season.
