The Harper Creek Beavers and the Pennfield Panthers were both even on the ground, but it was the new-found air attack the lead the Beavers to victory in a 34-6 win in Interstate 8 action Friday. In his second start under center, David Thompson went 10-for-14 passing for 167 yards and two touchdowns. The strikes went to Tanner Brauer for 48 yards in the first quarter and 56 yards to Brandon Hutson in the third. Former quarterback Colton Swims has since stepped in as a running back, and scored on five and 85-yard dashes, part of a 11-carry, 151-yard night. The Beavers have now won two straight and keep pace with Jackson Lumen Christi and Coldwater in the I-8 title race.

DaWan Smith scored the lone touchdown for the Panthers, a 28-yard burst in the final quarter, but it was a little too late. Pennfield rushed for 252 yards on 50 carries as a team, with Smith's 20 carries for 130 yards. The Panthers chances for a 16th straight playoff bid has started to fade with their fourth loss of the season.

In other action, state-ranked foes fall from the Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference, as the Lakeview Spartans shut down Stevensville-Lakeshore and the Battle Creek Central Bearcats shock St. Joseph on the road. The St. Philip Tigers traveled to the lakeshore for a dominant performance over St. Joseph Michigan Lutheran.
