Make Or Break – HS Football Scores-Week 9
The Lakeview Spartans sprinted out to a 30-point lead in the first half and didn't look back in a 51-0 road victory over the Gull Lake Blue Devils. Running backs Dre'On Kemp and Malik Schrad each had three rushing touchdowns, Devin Sherlock added another one late, and Jake Herbers put through a 35-yard field goal to boot, as the back-to-back Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference East Division champs will head to the postseason at 7-1.
Kemp's scores were from 71, four and 82 yards on the night. Schrad pounded scores of 55, ten and 87 yards.
The Blue Devils couldn't find an answer all night, being shut out for the only time this season. It's the third shutout for the Spartans, and their second in consecutive weeks.
On Saturday, the St. Philip Tigers sustained their first loss of the season, dropping a 40-19 decision at home to the Lawrence Tigers. The two state-ranked squads in eight-man football could square off again the MHSAA playoffs.
Here are your other scores, including Battle Creek Central's first winning season in six years, Pennfield pushing a playoff team to the brink, and Harper Creek falling and possibly missing the playoffs for the first time in six seasons. There were also four games from the Big 8-Cascade conferences cross-overs that took place Thursday.
