In this Week 3 battle, we saw everything in a rivalry game - toughness, athleticism, hard-nosed hits and everything in between. In what could have been a runaway game for the Lakeview Spartans, the Battle Creek Central Bearcats clawed their way back in the fourth quarter to take the home victory 35-27 Friday night.

The Bearcats (1-2) trailed for a better part of the game but were close at the half, down 14-12. After the Spartans scored twice in the third quarter to make it 27-12, BCC forced two turnovers in the fourth and turned them into touchdowns. A long Bearcat drive and two-point conversion made it 27-20, followed by a forced turnover and another score. Central would convert another two-point opportunity to make it 28-27. Senior Brandon Randle would then strip the Spartans of a comeback chance, returning a 32-yard fumble for the final score. Randle would also score the go-ahead touchdown for the Bearcats.

Senior Cyntell Williams also scored twice on runs of one- and two-yards for Central. Senior Dennis Watson in his first start at QB ran for 93 yards on 21 carries.

The Spartans (1-2) received 138 yards and three touchdowns from senior running back Dre Kemp on 23 carries. The fleet-of-foot Jay'Vion Settles would also score for Lakeview on a 90-yard kickoff return in the second quarter.

Here are the rest of the scores, including a blowout victory for St. Philip, and tough losses for Harper Creek and Pennfield in Interstate 8 action.
