Different Teams, Familiar Foes: HS Football-September 3

A game that was circled on the schedule last season never happened, so this one is almost two years in the making. The Lakeview Spartans will host the Portage Central Mustangs tonight in what will give the two teams an opportunity they didn't have in 2014.

The Spartans and Mustangs were set to play at McCamley Field in Portage in Week 2, but torrential rain and thunderstorms washed the game, with the battle eventually getting cancelled with no make-up game. These two teams last met in the Division 2 District Finals in 2013, where the Mustangs corralled the Spartans 40-7. The win ended a Lakeview five-game winning streak over Portage Central that spanned 32 years.

Both the Spartans and Mustangs are very similar in the fact they use stout defense and the Veer offense to push their teams to victory.

Lakeview will look to improve their offense after the scored late to win 12-6 over Portage Northern in Week 1. Portage Central thumped Mattawan 49-7 in their opener, and will face a much tougher defense on the road.
