A Cross-Town Battle Continues – HS Football-Week 3
After a crazy Week 2 that saw postponements and cancellations of games, and even a forfeit, Week 3 will be a reminder that we are already a third of the way through our High School Football season. Now that the cobwebs are dusted off, the student-athletes should be in full football mode following their second full week of school.
This week's Game of the Night will feature the two "big" schools in Battle Creek, as Central will travel to Lakeview to take on the Spartans. This cross-town rivalry never seems to disappoint, no matter what the records are for both teams. This year, it's pivotal on how the Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference's (Big 12) East Division will start to shake out with their first divisional games.
The Battle Creek Central Bearcats will look to ride their momentum following their 25-2 thumping of Benton Harbor. The defense has shined so far this year, holding their first two opponents to four points so far. They have also matched last year's win total, and will look to end a three-game skid against the Spartans.
Lakeview will have the daunting task of playing an actual game for the first time in two weeks, after their game with Portage Central was completely cancelled. Dropping down to an eight-game schedule and starting 0-1 on the year, the Spartans will now have to win five of their remaining seven games to earn an automatic playoff bid.
Dating back to 1950, this will be the 52nd meeting between the two schools, with the Bearcats holding a 29-22 record. The Spartans have won the last three, including last season's 40-0 shutout. Here's the rest of the schedule...
