Eight police departments working together pulled of a big pot bust at several locations in Calhoun and Kalamazoo Counties on Tuesday.  The Southwest Enforcement Team (SWET) executed multiple search warrants in Battle Creek, Springfield, as well as locations in Emmett, Bedford and Newton Townships.  One search warrant was also executed in Kalamazoo County.

Police say they started getting tips from concerned citizens and police in the county about a year ago, and mounted the investigation into an illegal marijuana manufacturing operation.

State Police say detectives spent many hours staking out various locations and gathering evidence.  They say it became apparent during the investigation that the suspects who were involved were acting outside the scope of the Michigan Medical Marijuana Act.

In the Tuesday raids, detectives located and seized approximately two hundred fifty eight (258) marijuana plants, approximately twenty (20) pounds of marijuana, U.S. currency, and numerous records and documents.

SWET was assisted by Troopers from the Michigan State Police Marshall post, the Michigan State Police Fifth District Hometown Security Team, the Michigan State Police Fifth District Detective Bureau, the West Michigan Enforcement Team (WEMET), the Jackson Narcotics Enforcement Team (JNET), Tri-County Metro Narcotics, the Battle Creek Police Department Special Investigations Unit (SIU), the Emmett Township Police Department, and the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department.
