The Michigan Department of Transportation is announcing a new phase in the I-94 Business Loop construction project. Part of that work includes the removal of the Columbia Avenue bridge over I-94. MDOT announced Monday that work will start in earnest this Friday, July 17.

According to the MDOT news release:

- The I-94 BL (Columbia Avenue) bridge at I-94 (Exit 92) will be closed through Labor Day for reconstruction.
- Eastbound I-94 traffic to northbound I-94 BL (Columbia Avenue) will be detoured to I-194/M-66 (Exit 98).
- There will be overnight I-94 closures at Exit 92 from 10 p.m. Friday, July 17, through 6 a.m. Monday, July 20.
Bridge reconstruction is scheduled to be complete with lanes and ramps reopened to traffic by Monday, Sept. 7.
July 13, 2015 -- The next phase of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) project to reconstruct the I-94 Business Loop (BL) (Columbia Avenue) bridge over I-94 at Exit 92 is scheduled to start on Friday, July 17.
           To accommodate bridge removal, I-94 will be closed nightly from 10 p.m. Friday through 8 a.m. Saturday, 9 p.m. Saturday through 10 a.m. Sunday, and 10 p.m. Sunday through 6 a.m. Monday. During those closures, traffic will be rerouted on the exit ramps around the bridge. A temporary ramp has been constructed from eastbound I-94 to Michigan Avenue.
           The eastbound I-94 ramp to southbound Mercury Drive, and the westbound I-94 ramp to northbound I-94 BL (Columbia Avenue) will remain open for most of the project. However, two-week closures will be needed to reconstruct each ramp.
           The southbound Columbia Avenue ramp to westbound I-94 will remain open throughout construction. The northbound Mercury Drive ramp to eastbound I-94 will be open for most of the project, with a two-week closure for reconstruction.
           The eastbound I-94 ramp to northbound I-94 BL (Columbia Avenue) will be detoured to I-194/M-66 Exit 98. The westbound I-94 ramp to southbound Mercury Drive will be detoured to Michigan Avenue Exit 88.
           Bridge reconstruction is scheduled to be complete with lanes and ramps reopened to traffic by Monday, Sept. 7 (weather permitting).
