Nonprofits around southwest Michigan and the country hope to latch onto Black Friday and Cyber Monday momentum on what has become known as Giving Tuesday, this year on November 28, 2017.

The Food Bank of South Central Michigan and The Haven of Rest both have been quick to remind folks of the significant need as the holidays approach.

Patty Parker, Food Bank executive director, discussed the uptick in demand - though, she says, demand for food assistance from local pantries has been significant all year.

Parker said online donations to the Food Bank on Giving Tuesday will be free of normal processing fees. Click here to donate.

A Thanksgiving Day free dinner available to anyone who visited the Fire Hub restaurant in downtown Battle Creek - operated by FireKeepers Casino Hotel where the Kendall Street Food Bank location is situated - resulted in 450 dinners distributed.
