The Kalamazoo mother accused in torturing and killing her 4-year old daughter will be going to prison.  A jury reached their verdict on Thursday afternoon in the trial of 25-year old Daveeta Walker.  Walker was found guilty of second degree murder for killing her daughter, Kharisma Richardson.  The girl died on her fourth birthday in March.

WWMT Channel 3 reports that jurors were shown a doctor’s chart of the child’s body this week with marks that indicated scars, bruises, burns and cuts.  The sketch showed dozens of injuries.

Walker testified that she never noticed them and broke down on the stand when talking about finding her daughter dead.  Walker insisted that she is not responsible, despite earlier telling police about beating and “whooping” the toddler.    Walker said she confessed to detectives because she was scared.

TV 17 WXMI reports that a baby sitter told police that Walker withheld food and water from the child, forcing her to eat out of the garbage and drinking out of the toilet.   Witnesses say the girl could barely walk a day before her death due to severe burns on her feet.

She faces sentencing on November 7th.
