A teen in Kalamazoo is in custody, after allegedly stealing a cell phone and fleeing police.

Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded to the area near Bronson Park at 200 W South St, around 6pm Wednesday, after a citizen reported a theft.  Officers found the suspect within minutes, but he fled on a bike when he saw police, and threw the stolen cell phone into the roadway.

The suspect was taken into custody a short time later, and at that time the bike he was riding was determined stolen as well.

The 15-year-old Kalamazoo resident was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home on charges of larceny and resisting and obstructing police; authorities say that the teen had been released from custody a few days prior for a similar crime.
