We have a giant in the breakfast food industry now in a bit of a battle with a giant in the online new site industry, and one of those giants is right here in Battle Creek Michigan.

Just a few days ago Kellogg announced that it will no longer advertise on breitbart.com, the Online news site formerly run by one of President-elect Donald Trump's top aides, Steve Bannon.

Kellogg company spokeswoman Kris Charles said they decided stop advertising on the news site as soon as it was alerted by one of their customers to the presence of their ads on the Breitbart new site. Apparently Kellogg has decided to believe the extremist liberals that have targeted Breitbart in a social media effort to force via threats companies and organizations that advertise on the site. These extremist liberal groups believe that Breitbart has been featuring racist, sexist and anti-Semitic content.

Kellogg company spokeswoman Kris Charles stated "We regularly work with our media buying partners to ensure our ads do not appear on sites that aren't aligned with our values as a company. This involves reviewing websites where ads could potentially be placed using filtering technology to assess site content. As you can imagine, there is a very large volume of websites, so occasionally something is inadvertently missed."

They point to published articles with provocative and some some are racist and sexist headlines, such as “Bill Kristol: Republican Spoiler, Renegade Jew,” “Hoist It High And Proud: The Confederate Flag Proclaims A Glorious Heritage”. I guess that is up to you to decide are those truly racist and anti-Semitic and if so was it right for Kellogg's to pull their ads for the new site.

In retaliation Breitbart has started a petition called #DumpKelloggs encouraging people to stop purchasing Kellogg's products the twitter site has garnered over 130,000 signers as of Wednesday afternoon.

Kellogg should be reminded that Breitbart has approximately 45,000,000 monthly "conservative" readers. These readers eat breakfast foods and where the articles published in Breitbart truly "racist" or whatever "ist or ism" and is it worth alienating those millions of customers or potential customers.

There is a Twitter page dedicated to this controversy and on that page I found the following Tweets:

You must know that not all companies are taking up the cause of the extremist liberals and no longer advertising on Breitbart. After it was pointed out to Nissan that one of their ad's were found on the Breitbart website, the automaker said in a statement that it “places ads in a variety of sites in order to reach as many consumers as possible.  The placement of Nissan advertising is not intended to be a political commentary and there are no plans to change the advertising mix at this time,” the company said.

Our political climate is just getting to heated up.  Companies should be concerned about selling their products and let the people decided what they want to buy and not buy.  I am not one for boycotting any company because everyday people work at those companies and can be hurt by the actions of extremist and company executives.  The left always wants to punish someone if they do not believe in the same ideology as them, but as I always say turnaround is fair play is it not.

I know many good people who work for Kellogg and all they want is the opportunity to go to work each day and do the best they can do and provide for their families.  It is a shame when company executives bend to the will of extremist, in the light of very little evidence the extremist point to.

Let’s talk about this today on The Live with Renk Show which airs Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to noon. To let me know your thoughts during the show please call (269) 441-9595.
