Liquidation sales are happening right now at the Hallmark gift store on Columbia Ave.  in Battle Creek as longtime owners plan retirement beginning in 2018.

Charlie and Sally Schukel have been in the business of happy birthdays and holidays, congratulations and graduations, best wishes and baptisms, sympathy and just becauses since 1986 when they opened Lakeview Card and Gift Shop on Columbia Ave. in Battle Creek. Now, a "happy retirement" card is in order. They shared the news on the business Facebook page:

To our loyal friends and customers,

After owning Lakeview Card and Gift Shop since 1986, Charlie and Sally Schuckel have decided to retire and enjoy travel, golf, hunting, fishing, genealogy and their family. Currently 25-50% off applies to many lines with additional categories added weekly.

We have enjoyed your patronage and friendship throughout our 31 years. Hope to see you soon.

This follows Jim Hazel announcing the closing of his family's Citgo gas station after 66 years and  the disappointing news that K-Mart will close their Battle Creek store after the holidays, but the news isn't all bad for Lakeview and Battle Creek- a follow-up post reads:

As clarification, Lakeview Card & Gift Shop is closing at the end of the year, but the new owners of the building will begin a multi-week total store renovation the first of January. At completion, the new store will open as Happy House Gifts, hopefully for the Valentines Day Season. This will be a full Hallmark Gold Crown Store. The current Management Team for Lakeview Card & Gift will be managing the new store. The current employees have been offered positions with the new store.
