Work begins Tuesday on Battle Creek’s northwest side, to inspect the city’s sewer system.

The city of Battle Creek says that starting Tuesday, March 28, workers with the city contractor Pipeline Management will be inspecting, cleaning and videotaping the larger sized sewers in the city; a separate contractor is working on the smaller sewers at this time as well. The work begins in the Urbandale area, progressing towards downtown as progress is made.

Roads will remain open; however, there might be lane closures at times.

The work, which is expected to last a few months, became possible after grant money from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality became available. The grant was to help municipalities form an Asset Management Program by rating their sanitary and storm sewer systems.
