The City of Lansing is paying $150,000 to settle a lawsuit filed on behalf of a man who died almost four years ago after being handcuffed by police.
36-year-old Jeffrey Littlejohn Jr. died in April, 2011 from an asthma attack apparently suffered before being handcuffed by Lansing police officers. No charges were filed against the officers and an internal affairs investigation found that the officers had done nothing wrong.
The lawsuit alleged that officers did not remove the handcuffs after Littlejohn said “he could not breathe and that he needed help.”
