The Michigan Board of Education is looking to make school more comfortable for gay, lesbian and transgender school kids. Recommendations from the board would allow students to include their preferred name and gender in the school district’s records. Students would also be able to choose which bathrooms and locker rooms they will be using. House Speaker Kevin Cotter of Mt. Pleasant does not agree with the guidelines, saying that parents are concerned about shared bathrooms and locker rooms. The public comment period on the guidelines lasts through May 10th.
