Libertarian Party Convention in Kalamazoo Saturday
What exactly is a Libertarian? Well, there’s a philosophy, and a political party. The Michigan State Libertarian Party is having its state convention in Kalamazoo on Saturday.
Gathering will be many like-minded people like me, who share a skepticism of authority, and standing up for the rights of individuals. The party formed in 1971, 44 years ago.
I've been telling them for many of those years that they should get a clue with branding and marketing, but most Libertarians are more interested in debating important issues, and not so much in the marketing department. Too bad. A lot of people agree with them, but just don't know it.
Saturday, Libertarians from all over Michigan will gather at Holiday Inn West to vote on by-laws and officers. 2012 presidential nominee Gary Johnson states that the party is more socially liberal than the Democrats, but more fiscally conservative than the Republicans.
Many Republicans, most notably presidential candidate Senator Rand Paul, and his dad, Congressman Ron Paul, are Libertarians who try to move the GOP more toward libertarian ideals.
A press release from former Republican State Representative and Kalamazoo businessman Lorence Wenke, he says the group will meet from 8:00AM unto their banquet ends at 7:30PM. It says that the Libertarian Party of Southwest Michigan is led by Jason Brandenburg, and that Mary Buzuma is the State President.
Tonight (Friday) will be their first-ever pub crawl where a group will visit several of Kalamazoo’s pubs.
