The Battle Creek Police Department and Calhoun County Sheriff's Department are observing National Police Memorial Week this week, as well as honoring outstanding law enforcement officers.

A ceremony was scheduled for Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Battle Creek City Hall, where Officer Damon Young would receive honors as BCPD officer of the year. Chief Jim Blocker tells 95.3 WBCK other honors were planned.

Calhoun County Sheriff Matt Saxton said similar honors are planned in his department, as well as others which have taken place over the last few weeks.
