A 30-year-old man was formally charged with the discharge of a weapon following a Friday night incident in Battle Creek.

Officers were called to a home on Summer Street after a 25-year-old man sustained a head injury on a deck outside. Authorities learned from the victim that he believed the older man had a gun and attempted to leave because of his fear of weapons. Even though a single gunshot was fired, the victim sustained the head wound from a fall during the incident.

The victim was taken to Bronson-Kalamazoo for treatment.

The older man, identified as Earl Jackson III, was found another home on Summer Street. Jackson was arraigned today on discharge of a weapon in or near a building, among other charges from a non-related warrant. A preliminary hearing is set for September 9th.
