A 25-year-old man broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home, assaulted her and then attempted to start a fire in the residence.

Battle Creek Police responded to the call in the 100 Block of Battle Creek Avenue at 2:30 AM Wednesday morning.

When learning that police had been called, the man fled the scene.

Officers arrived with a K9 unit and was able to track the suspect to the 100 block of West Rittenhouse, where he was located in a residence. He was arrested and charged with Home Invasion, Attempted Arson and several outstanding warrants and lodged into the Calhoun County Jail.
