UPDATE: The Sheriff's Office identified the man Thursday morning as 30-year-old Nathan Kelly Sykora.

A man is dead after he fell into the Kalamazoo River Wednesday.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says that around 6pm Wednesday, officers from the Marshall Police Department, CCSO, and the Michigan State Police responded to the 700 block of River St in Marshall, and saw in the river a small boat with a dog inside, rotating with its electric motor still running.

A comprehensive search of the river was conducted, involving the CCSO Marine Unit and a MSP helicopter. Around 8:45pm, the 30-year-old Marshall man was recovered from the water and pronounced dead. The man had “known medical issues”, and an autopsy is planned to determine cause of death.

Authorities say that they see no signs of foul play. The dog in the boat was recovered unharmed.
