Man Questioned In New Year’s Shooting

A man has surrendered himself for questioning in connection with a fatal shooting that happened early New Year's Day in Battle Creek.

22-year-old Demoyne Smith died from a single gunshot wound to the head during a party on Marjorie Street.

At the time, numerous shots had been fired into the air in celebration and dozens of shell casings were recovered from the scene.

The victim’s mother walked one of her nephews into the Police Station yesterday to surrender.

The man is being held on unrelated warrants.
