Update: ESPN reports a deal is done between Max Scherzer and the Washington Nationals. Here's the story.

 

It looks like Detroit Tigers ace Max Scherzer is soon to be former Detroit Tigers ace Max Scherzer.

Multiple media outlets reported Sunday that the right-handed pitching prize of the offseason was on the verge of signing a seven-year deal with the Washington Nationals. Other media rsported Scherzer was in serious talks with at least one other team.

Last offseason, Scherzer reportedly turned down a six-year $144 million offer from the Tigers. It is widely believed he is looking for a $200-plus million contract.

Scherzer has been with Detroit for five seasons. He won the 2013 AL Cy Young Award after going 21-3 with a 2.90 ERA and 240 strikeouts. Last season, he went 18-5 with a 3.19 ERA and a career-high 252 strikeouts.
