Battle Creek Mayor Dave Walters tells WBCK a collaboration between the city and Kalamazoo is likely to be hammered out as it relates to emergencies like the Kalamazoo shootings two months ago.

Walters said one meeting has already taken place between he and Kalamazoo Mayor Bobby Hopewell, and also involved city managers Rebecca Fleury and Jim Ritsema. Another is set for this week.

The expectation is the two cities will help articulate communication processes between them if and when a similar situation arises again.

Such assessments - along with a "alert" bill traveling through the legislature now - are hindsight results of an ongoing analysis of the response to the February 20th incidents in Kalamazoo County.

Hear Walters address that issue, as well as a recent vote of the Battle Creek City Commission on a resolution to support "Welcoming Michigan" and an ongoing effort to establish a program in Battle Creek for foreign students. Click the player below to hear the interview.
