Battle Creek’ big downtown hotel turns 36 this fall, and major changes that have been talked about for more than a year are in the works for later this year.

The 239 room McCamly Plaza Hotel, located at 50 Capital Avenue Southwest in Battle Creek,  will undergo a $3.5 million renovation as part of a long-anticipated conversion to a DoubleTree by Hilton.

General Manager Ryan Simmons and Director of Sales Greg Taft were guests on Thursday’s Richard Piet Show, hosted by Tim Collins on 95.3 WBCK.

Simmons says things are falling into place for the re-imaging of the hotel this fall, which will include a completely re-worked main entrance, as well as a re-design of the J.W. Barleycorn restaurant space on the first level of the complex.    He says they’ll be moving a workout gym to the first level as well, and working with non-profit groups to make the hotel a big part of the Battle Creek Community, as it was in years past.

The Hotel is taking reservations for an Easter Brunch on the 16th floor space, formerly known as Porter's, City Lights, and McCamly's Roof.  A mother's day brunch is also scheduled.
